Whether you are unhappy with your smile because there is a small space between your two front teeth or because of noticeable discoloration, you may have your eyes on one cosmetic dental service in particular: veneers. You’re not alone – it’s one of the most popular smile-enhancing treatments! If you are interested in learning what you can expect from start to finish, then keep reading for a quick look at the process of getting veneers.

1. The Consultation

Of course, the first step is the consultation. At this appointment, you’ll meet with your cosmetic dentist so they can get to know your unique dental needs and smile goals better. In addition to learning what you’d like to change about your smile and what you want the final result to look like, they will conduct a comprehensive oral exam to determine if you’re a good candidate for veneers.

2. The Treatment Plan

After your cosmetic dentist determines that you’re a good candidate, the smile makeover process will officially begin! In addition to determining the number of veneers you need, you will work together to pick the ideal shape, shade, and size of each one. If any preliminary treatments are needed, like gum disease therapy, that will also be discussed to ensure your smile is healthy prior to placing your veneers.

3. The Preparation Process

Once all of the details of your treatment plan are solidified, it will be time to “prep” your teeth. This involves removing a sliver of your enamel so the veneers don’t look or feel bulky. Then, impressions are taken of your teeth for the dental lab, and the fabrication process begins.

4. The Trial Run

Since it typically takes a few weeks for your final veneers to be made, your dentist will provide you with temporary ones in the meantime. Although they will look great, they aren’t as durable. So, you will need to stick to a liquid and soft foods diet until your final appointment.

5. The Final Appointment

At your last appointment, your temporary veneers will be replaced with your final ones. Then, any final, slight adjustments will be made, and a polish will be applied to ensure they look absolutely perfect. You’ll leave the office with the bright, balanced, and beautiful smile you’ve always wanted.
